Japanese School Officials Consider Gender Identity and School Uniforms
On June 11, transgender and genderqueer high school students spoke about school uniforms at an event in Fukuoka City.
Sapporo City will commence its “Partnership Oath System” on June 1st. The system will for the first time officially recognize same-sex couples in the city. Couples wishing to utilize the system are required to submit a written oath to their government office. They will then receive a certificate and a copy of the original oath. It has been announced that 50 couples have registered using the same-sex partnership system in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo. The ward plans to continue to advance its policies to create a comfortable living environment for LGBT individuals.
Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2017 will take place at various locations in Tokyo from April 29th through May 7th. On the morning of January 4th, the city of Urasoe raised a rainbow flag, the symbol of sexual diversity, in front of city hall. At the ceremony corresponding with the first day of work in the new year, Mayor Matsumoto Tetsuzi read the “Rainbow City Urasoe Declaration”, designating the city as one that accepts sexual diversity.
